Like many environmental issues, the subject of recycled materials is not a straightforward one. The approach must be holistic in order to develop truly sustainable and responsible products. The manufacturing process and distance travelled from the source must be considered when selecting fabrics and components. Currently, not all recycled fibre fabrics are as durable as existing ‘virgin fibre‘ fabrics. This is why, at present TICCC products may not use recycled fabrics throughout its collection. As technology develops and improves this will change.
One area we can make a significant difference is by continuing to develop high-quality, durable products. Our make less, make the best, make it versatile product philosophy delivers in line with our impact goals. We use only the highest quality fabrics and components available as they last longer. Extending the lifespan of existing ‘virgin fibre’ products is as important as making future products with recycled fibres, or using other ‘future friendly’ technology.
We make our products in the best European construction houses to ensure our products stand up to the needs of our demanding sport. All fabrics used in the production of our products have industry standard health, safety and environmental certifications, such as Bluesign®, OEKO-TEX® and GRS.
A large aspect of a garment’s impact is generated through laundering. It was important for us to identify and offer a solution which will help counter the impact once the garment left us. We recommend Guppyfriend. Guppyfriend has developed a washing bag which will reduce synthetic microfibre pollution. Microfibre pollution is a major threat to our rivers and oceans. The bag also helps prolong the lifespan of your TICCC garments.
